w00t! AX it is! I didn't want to say anything before an official decision was reached but, I was planning to go to this con regardless ^^;; But now that ASU has decided to go to AX, I can tag along and help organize the trip \^o^/

It will get updated as the months go by with the latest and greatest information as well as provide links to online registrations and con hotel reservations (in case we go that route).

As I had stated, Haruko Momoi www.momoi.com , lead singer from singing group UNDER17, confirmed on her website (and also stated so during her concert at this past Anime Expo Tokyo www.axtokyo.org ) that she will be coming over to Anaheim for Anime Expo 2004. You can look up some info on her at animenfo www.animenfo.com/animesei...aruko.html but, just quickly she's voiced Komugi-chan from Nurse Witch Komugi-chan, Mii from Popotan, and currently you can hear her performance as Tama-chan during ASU's showings of Bottle Fairy.

Now that we've decided which con to go to, it's time for people to start making plans. The convention runs from Friday, July 2nd to Monday, July 5th. If history repeats itself, we will most likely leave on Wednesday, June 30th in the evening to arrive in Southern California on Thursday, July 1st in the morning/afternoon for badge pickup; once the con is over, we will most likely leave on Monday, July 5th in the afternoon/evening and arrive in El Paso on Tuesday, July 6th in the morning/afternoon. So basically you must have off from Wed 6/30 to Tue 7/6. Start planning ahead.

On the money issue, it will depen on many factors: how much money we can raise during the Spring and Summer semester fundraisers, cost of gas during the summer months, which hotel (con vs. non-con) we stay at, how many people go, etc. etc. Last year it was approx. $100 for each member attending (this covered con registration, transportation to/from the con, and lodging for 4 nights). This year it could be higher or it could be lower. This amount however, did not cover food or purchases. Everyone's their own man or woman on that one.

Based on personal experiences, I believe that for first-time con goers and who are not planning to spend too much if at all, $200-$250 should suffice. For more experienced con-goers who plan to buy more stuff and/or do additional sight seeing (Disneyland, Universal Studios, etc), probably $400-$500. And for those who are seasoned con-goers and/or hardcore collectors (like Jabel and his LDs ^_-), probably $600-$800.

Of course, we should have an official word later on from our Treasurer and the people assiting him about the actual amount needed. There are 20 weeks from now until AX. If you can save $20 a week from now until then, you can easily save $400, which is nice money for an anime con. So my advice to you: START SAVING NOW!

Seriously now, I am very surprised myself with the very high interest in ASU's con trip (I guess all the people who went last year had a blast and convinced their friends to go this year). We also have several of the newer members interested so, maybe they can convince their friends for next year. Who knows, maybe for 2005 there will be 20+ ASU people going to AX (or whatever con is decided). Gaspar really deserves the credit for putting this trip together and we're all very thankful to him for it.

Yeah, the plan is drive up again (with Raul's and my car plus a van that Ann will be providing) plus this year it was agreed to stay an extra day for sightseeing around LA. Otakon, huh? Great con IMO. If I ever go back to the Northeast, this will be my yearly con instead of AX. If you do plan to go to AX Cody, let us know so that we can travel together and have a good time again!
